See, here's the thing. When McCain chose Palin as his running mate, I shrugged. I'm not Republican so I don't really care who he picks.
Then, the more I found out about how scandalous she was, the more I started to like her. She's all... normal. She can relate to the common people. I liked that.
Then I found out she has a baby with Down's Syndrome. Now, I knew that she FOR YEARS voted to slash funding for special needs programs in schools. I usually attribute that to perhaps the fact that she felt the money needed to be better spent elsewhere. Oh, so, now all of a sudden, since YOUR baby is special needs, you want to promote more funding for special needs children and programs. I have a brother who is autistic, and all that money you took away from him going to public schools and being taken care of makes me upset. And NOW, now that YOU know what it's like... SORT OF (since her child hasn't even entered into a school system yet... GOOD LUCK TO YOU) to have a child with special needs, you change your tune. I call this hypocrisy, and it totally changed my mind about Sarah Palin. I now have no respect for her. And if old McCain kicks the bucket.... we want THIS CHICK (and the title of my blog is a DIRECT QUOTE from Palin) to run our country? No thanks.
I see many problems with voting Obama into office. Most of those problems stem from the effect it will have on certain people groups.... (do you catch my drift) But I see just as many, if not more, problems with voting McCain into office. Our country is doomed and I want to get out. I don't even feel like I can vote, because it's like choosing which one you think is the lesser of two evils, and I just don't want ANY evil running my country. I want out.
Please, don't be offended by this blog. I very rarely discuss politics openly, and NEVER blog about them, but I am truly upset about Palin's hypocrisy regarding funding for special needs kids. *shakes head* Isn't that karma, though?? You slash funding for special needs programs for years and now all of a sudden your baby has Down's Syndrome. Ouch.
*Disclaimer: I love all people, Democrats and Republicans alike. I am affiliated with neither party*

Allz I have to say is, if you voted for something that you later regretted voting for, and years later someone says I HAVE NO RESPECT FOR HER BECAUSE SHE VOTED THAT WAY... how would you feel? It cracks me up b/c people always pull out people's voting records. They vote on THOUSANDS of things, and they find the one thing they voted against ONCE and magnify it to make the person look like an idiot.
If you like her for her mistakes, you gotta like her for ALL of her mistakes. You certainly wouldn't want someone pulling out the one thing you did wrong a few years back and throwing it in your face now. At least I wouldn't.
And you know I loves ya.
*shrugs* I think now I don't like it her at all. I know they vote on thousands of things, but it's just awful funny that she changes her tune when it affects HER and she didn't give a crap about all the other special needs kids that she hurt for years and years.... It would be one thing if she suddenly saw the light and decided that children with special needs are important, but if she didn't have a baby with down's syndrome, she would still be voting against special needs programs. :(
And i loves you too. I also love that we can share and be passionate about our opinions without losing our friendship or disrespecting each other.
I dunno what to do about this election, but I do know I need a lot more research and information before I can make a good decision, that I feel right about.
Where are you getting that info? Was it the CBS or CNN report? They need to do better research, all they need to do is use Google.
In FY 07, before Palin worked on the budget, the state of Alaska had four distinct programs funded under it’s special education management budget: something called SESA, a psychiatric program, a school for the deaf, and the Alaska Challenge Youth Academy. In FY 08, the first Palin year, the first three programs - SESA, the psychiatric program, and the school for the deaf - were still in the special education management budget and their funding was approximately the same as it was in FY 07. But the Alaska Challenge Youth Program isn’t listed and it’s omission accounts for what appears to be a huge drop in funding for special education services.
What happened? Was this program indeed "slashed"? No. In FY 08 the academy was moved out of special education management and became it’s own program. And it’s funding was increased by about $2.8 million (to $8,234,000 in FY 08from $5,449,300 in FY07). Here’s a link to the program’s FY 08 budget http://gov.state.ak.us/omb/08_OMB/bu…D/comp2837.pdf
And you're awesome. Don't care if we disagree or not. :) Just thought I would throw that in since I read it recently, and I thought it might clear up what you had heard. If not, ignore me. ;)
Oops, just realized that link is not complete. http://gov.state.ak.us/omb/08_OMB/budget/EED/comp2837.pdf
"Most of those problems stem from the effect it will have on certain people groups...."
what does that mean?
To Dora: Thank you for clarifying some of the points that I have may have been misunderstood on. I am in know why trying to offend anyone (not that you were offended) but mostly trying to have a discussion to enable myself to make an educated, clear decision when voting that I feel I have made in good conscience. I continue to research both candidates and their running mates for this reasons.
Clare: I'm not speaking anyone specifically here, but certainly several people groups from African Americans, to Caucasians, to rich to poor people will be affected by voting Obama into office, and further more, some of these groups might be impacted more positively or negatively than others. In other words, (and not to make this obscenely racial, even though it may come out that way) Will black political groups become so powerful where white groups begin to suffer? Will poor people be given more advantages than rich people? I like that Obama has never played the "race" card personally. However, I am concerned with equality for everyone if a minority president is elected. I know that sounds close-minded, but I fear it's just the way of the world and the nature of the beast .
a link that will help, and look Dora, it's CNN...are you surprised ;)
http://www.cnn.com/video/?JSONLINK=/video/politics/2008/09/10/johns.internet.rumors.cnn
thanks for taking the time to clarify, erica. i guess i don't see it as a race issue...our country is so diverse, i think it's time to have a different kind of president who will reflect the rich diversity of the US. plus in my eyes, it's not black presidents and white presidents...it's more about what each individual believes in and where my views and values line up with theirs.
mudslinging makes a lot of people misinformed and confused.... and the internet is the perfect breeding ground for a lot of things.
I'm so gullible LOL
hahaha it happens Erica. There's defintely a lot of things Palin has done that I HATE and I am not a Republican by any means, but I enjoyed the piece and like news teams clarifying stories. A lot of mudslinging is going on, and it will only get worse!
